This well-preserved city was destroyed as result of eruption in 79 A.D. of Mt. Vesuvius, Italy

Tragically, 20,000 Pompeian residents were killed as the ash buried the town. A mummification of the entire city occurred, so that the ash actually captured a moment in time.
